People who have recently undergone a knee replacement surgery should take all the necessary precautions in order to protect their new knees. The dislocation of the knee after a knee replacement surgery is not very common like that of a hip dislocation after a hip replacement. But, still, certain precautions must be taken in order to keep the knee safe. Here are some tips to safeguard your knees after a knee replacement surgery:
Use a walker
Using a walker will help you to walk properly. It can save you from falling and damaging the knee by giving the required extra support. With time, the use of walker will be less and you will be able to walk properly on your own.
Since knee replacement surgery is an incursive procedure, there would be stitches on your wound. Do not ever try to cut these stitches on your own at home as they can worsen the wound. The doctor will remove the stitches after two weeks of the surgery. Also, make sure you do not soak the wound in water till the time it is properly dried up. Bandage it properly to keep it clean and dry.
Look for the blood clots
During the first few weeks, there can be the formation of some blood clots. Your doctor may recommend you to take aspirin on a daily basis to avoid the formation of blood clots. Still, always look out for the signs of a blood clot in your treated leg. These signs may include:
- Redness and irritation above or below the treated knee
- Swelling in your ankle, foot, or calf
- Continuous pain in any portion of the treated leg.
If you notice any of the above-mentioned symptoms, contact your doctor immediately before the condition becomes critical.
As you get discharged from the hospital and reach back your home after the knee replacement surgery. Remember that your replaced knee or joint may not be able to bear the burden of your total body weight. Thus it is advisable to rest properly for a few days and then slowly getting back to your normal routine. During the initial phase, you can take the help of a walker or any other family member if you need to go somewhere. A few guidelines to remember are as follows:
- Don’t stand for a longer period of time
- Don’t cross your legs
- Don’t sit for prolonged hours
- Do not kneel down a lot
Still, there are so many people who don’t care about the habits they have because they think that we should enjoy our life without thinking anything, but they don’t know that in young age they will not feel anything about the pain, but in middle age and in old age they will then realize about what exactly is the pain is? So, that’s why the helpless people have to choose the surgery option for them because they don’t exercise, they don’t walk, they don’t meditate and even they don’t do Yoga any day. It can spoil their life because the stiffness and pain in the joints and knees cause severe condition which can be troublesome for everyone when time crosses.
Now, if anyone is moving ahead with the option of knee replacement surgery especially in India then he/she should understand all the desired and required instructions from the Doctor or Surgeon because if he/she fails to do so then the surgery might cause some negative effects or impacts on the body which is not at all good for any patient. Dr Ashish Jain always recommends easing yourself before going for a surgery of any knee or joint of the body like shoulder, hips and lower parts of the body joints etc. He said that many people also concerned about the cost but they don’t know the quality of treatment that would be given to you in the OT. He said, knee replacement in Delhi is done at very less and affordable cost and people can avail the benefits these days because the cost has been reduced from 5, 6 lakhs to 2 to 2.5 lakhs. So, in this the hopeless people can avail this facility.
